Education is a core priority at the CHUM IBD Centre.

We offer comprehensive training for medical students and residents, that combines theoretical learning with hands-on clinical experience during bedside and outpatient rotations. Dr. Katarzyna Orlicka leads the CHUM IBD Centre pedagogic program.

The program includes formal research training, with opportunities for four medical students and eight residents in internal medicine or gastroenterology to gain valuable research experience. Annually, we provide education for about 40 residents, enhancing their skills in gastroenterology through both didactic and experiential learning.

In addition to training future specialists, we are developing educational projects aimed at improving local care for patients with challenging IBD issues, reducing unnecessary travel to Montréal.

We are also focused on enhancing the knowledge of patients and healthcare providers to help prevent complications and avoid emergency room visits. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to improving IBD care across Quebec.

Physicians

Our team is actively involved in training the next generation of gastroenterologists and internal medicine specialists with a focus on IBD. Key initiatives include:

We regularly contribute as invited speakers at national and international IBD conferences, supporting continued medical education in the field.

Nurses

Educational initiatives specifically designed for IBD nurses are currently in development. In the meantime, our team regularly presents as invited speakers at two major continuing education events for IBD-specialized nurses:

  • NIICE
  • Requiem

Our participation reflects our ongoing commitment to interdisciplinary education in IBD care.

Patients

We held our first “I Talk About My IBD” dinner-discussion, where patients had the opportunity to ask questions directly to the healthcare professionals on our CHUM IBD team.

Other patient-specific education initiatives are coming soon. Stay tuned for updates as we expand our offerings to better support individuals living with IBD.
